Note: I posted this in a forum sectionby itself and have received positive feedback but since this section of the forum has more readers I felt the need to post it here.

I was thinking that while I have been calling 10 Senators every day, if each of you who have joined us in our cause would commit to calling the same two Senators on the same day, (I would be glad to provide the names and numbers) changing who we call over the course of five days (March 15th thru March 19th). We can be assued of over 100 calls to each of the Senators per day. Our voices would be hard as one! Please let me know if you are interested in this idea, and I will post the names and numbers for each day in one list within this post. We will get our tier V!

Update: 3/14/10

Below is the list I promised. Aside from any other officials you contact, if we could make a point to call the two Senators offices listed on the corresponding days listed, telling them to pass along to the Senator the message of our need for a TIER 5 EXTENSION prior to the "spring break" that begins on March 29th, we can be sure they will hear us loud and proud and know we are here as one, and what we need.

Monday

Senator Harry Reid: Phone= (202) 224-3542

Senator Jean Shaheen: Phone= (202) 224-2841

Tuesday

Senator Richard Durbin: Phone= (202) 224-2152

Senator Max Baucus: Phone= (202) 224-2651

Wednesday

Senator Debbie Stabenow: Phone= (202) 224-4822

Senator Sherrod Brown: Phone= (202) 224-2315

Thursday

Senator Robert Casey: Phone= (202) 224-6324

Senator Chris Dodd: Phone= (202) 224-2823

Friday

Senator Al Franken: Phone= (202) 224-5641

Senator Arlen Specter: Phone= (202) 224-4254

Consider it done.

I will also post this tonight on the blogsite.  http://usunemployed.blogspot.com has been having nearly a thousand readers daily and the number keeps going up the more and more the unemployed seem to be finding out this latest extension did not cover a Tier 5.

If it's okay with you, I would like to write a little about this site and the campaign that is starting on Monday.  I too will be making phone calls and will ask my readers to participate.

I am also participating in the campaign at unemployed-friends.com.  That forum has a lot of readers who are participating in Congressional call-ins.  If we organize this just right we could potentially knock down the doors of Congress next week by telephone.

Congress needs to hear from us.  Everyone keep it civil, polite, and to the point.  They are probably going to think we are calling in about health care (that's the Senate's agenda this coming week).  They need to know that we are calling directly about the creation of a new tier of benefits.

Hopefully someone this week gets a response from a Senator.  I contacted Debbie Stabenow's office last week and am still waiting on a reply.  The two Senators from Tennessee (Alexander and Corker) already have voted "No" on extensions in the past.  I am not wasting my breath calling them.  I have sent them emails but their actions speak for themselves.

Good luck everyone!

Please spread the word, THANK YOU! That was one of the reasons I created this site. We are all in the same situation and the more people that not only know what is really happening (or not happening) for us YET, and are willing to take action the closer we are to getting what I believe without doubt WE WILL GET!

UPDATE: I thank those of you who are posting this info on other sites and message boards. I know we will get this done! I figured I would start early and call all on the list today. With the exception of three Senators all voicemailboxes were FULL. I will bet my last tier four benefit checks that they are filled with calls from all of us who need that tier 5 extension.

Past experience is that it is not hard to leave vm on the weekend so keep getting the word out. If we can fill their vm imagine how many calls they will be taking from us this week during office hours!!!!

Hello--you can also go here if you wish--to http://www.congress.org.

At this site you can write to elected officials, congressmen and women as well as President Obama about adding a new tier.  Their email addresses and a blank letter form make it easy and quick to get your message out. Cheers and the best to my fellow unemployed.

I just did and when I did get through to 1 of the 4 Senator's offices, I started getting the defensive tone which tells me they are getting bombarded, KEEP them coming.  They are also redirecting calls to v/m as soon as you mention the HR 4213 and Tier V....great work but continue on my fellow unemployed friends!

God's speed!

So glad I found this web site.. Thanks MJH  .. I don't have long distance, but I have been e-mailing since Friday.  The word really hasn't gotten out yet here in Cleveland.  ALL of my unemployed friends did not realize that  Tier 4 was it.  They do  now... and more will come to realize.  We are at the end of the rope.

This is a great link to the media in your area. It will send 5 emails for you and no limit that I can tell to how many times you use it.

Shaheen's office told me "I know they are working on something I don't want to tell you to much, I don't have all the details".....good sign :)

Here are the responses I got.

Senator Reid  (202) 224-3542  rang 6 times then went to a busy signal.  Called back and asked " I was wondering if you could tell me what Senator Reid is doing to help the those who are due to exhaust all 99 weeks of unemployment benefits by the end of this month?"   this was the response I got "at this time the senator has no comment regarding that  But I'd be happy to pass your comments along".

Senator Shaheen  (202) 224-2841  very nice gentleman, who said he knows there have been discussion of extending tier 5 but  he hasn't heard anything definitive from the sen from the last few days, he then said he knows congress is preparing to vote on a extension to the end of 2010.  I asked if he's speaking of the HR4231 bill he said yes, I said that bill only covers those who go up to Tier 4 it doesn't help those who are about to exhaust all 99 weeks of benefits.  He asked if there was a message I'd like to leave for Sen Shaheen I said yes and asked again what will be done for those of us who are going to exhaust all 99 weeks of benefits, he took my name and where I was calling from.

Senator Brown, Massachusetts  (202) 224-4543   i'm sorry you will have to contact unemployment for that... my response no there currently is NO tier 5 got put on hold a woman answered I asked her the same question I asked the gentleman, her response was .... Senator Brown didn't vote for bill last week that is extending UE.  I said the bill from last week doesn't affect those of us who are about to exhaust all 99 weeks.  She said 99 weeks is the limit after that it's taken case by case by the unemployment office (that's news to me and I think she's wrong).  There office was confused to say the least.  I asked her to ask Sen Brown if he is aware that many of us who are on unemployment are going to exhaust ALL benefits by the end of the month and we need a Tier 5.

Senator Kerry, Massachusetts  (202) 224-2742  my response from Kerry's office:  "the Senator has spoken to several members of congress for tier 5, we don't know how it's being received by senate yet, his intent is to co-sign on a bill for a tier 5.  We don't have the votes yet but he is trying."  She asked for my zipcode

Spoke with Sherrod Brown's rep.  He wants a Tier 5 but does not have enough votes for it.

Voinovich I know will say ney.  He voted  'NO' on this current fraudulent bill.

Betty Sutton, is actually 2 miles from my house right now with PRESIDENT OBAMA. in Strongsville, Ohio

I should have stood on my road with a sign :)
